The lightning caused Ferris fire is burning approximately 30 miles north-northeast of Rawlins in the Ferris Mountains. It is burning on state, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and private lands. The fire is burning in a remote area with extremely steep and rugged terrain and limited access. This area is a major wildlife area with a variety of big game populations and is also a Greater Sage-grouse core area within the BLM High Desert District. BLM representatives are currently mapping the burn area and will assess impacts.
