Firefighters have contained an 8,800-acre wildfire in Carbon County's Ferris Mountains area. The Ferris Fire has been burning since July 27 when it was started by lightning about 30 miles north-northeast of Rawlins. Firefighters have been demobilizing the last couple of days but some will remain to monitor and mop up along the fire's perimeter. The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning for the western two-thirds of Wyoming into Friday night. Dry lightning is anticipated along with hot, dry and windy weather - all ingredients for fire starts and rapid growth of fires.
