A Jackson Hole company wants to lease land from Cheyenne to build a 300-megawatt, $750 million wind farm. The Morley Company is proposing building 120 towers on city-owned land six miles west of Cheyenne. Company CEO Bruce Morley says the city could earn between $72 and $130 million over a 30-year lease but he acknowledged that it could take a while for construction to start. He said one factor is whether Congress renews a federal tax credit for wind farms that's set to expire in a year. Plans to build a $40 million plant that would produce towers for wind turbines in Cheyenne have been delayed and some industry observers say uncertainty over federal subsidies for renewable energy may be a factor.
