Sitka Commander Was Prepared to Drop Charges Against Pilot Involved in Fatal Crash That Killed Rock Springs Man

The Coast Guard commander of Air Station Sitka said he was prepared to recommend that the matter against the co-pilot in a fatal helicopter crash be dropped. Cmdr. William Cameron testified Thursday in a hearing to determine whether Lt. Lance Leone faces a court-martial in the 2010 crash off the Washington coast, which killed three people including Brett Banks of Rock Springs. Cameron made his decision after reading the investigation report and conferring with a Guard attorney. The new commander in Alaska, Rear Admiral Thomas Ostebo will make the final decision on any charges against Leone.
