New Charge Considered In Fatal Coast Guard Crash

A military hearing for the sole survivor of a deadly Coast Guard helicopter crash has ended, with the defense arguing that the Coast Guard had "set a trap" by not marking the power lines that the helicopter crashed into, killing three, last year including Brett Banks of Rock Springs. Prosecutors, in closing arguments, claimed Lt. Lance Leone did not fulfill his duties as a co-pilot and should face court martial. Leone is charged with negligent homicide and other violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice in connection with the July 2010 crash. On Friday, the investigating officer presiding over Leone's military hearing said he planned to investigate an additional charge: dereliction of duty for failure to employ proper CRM, or crew resource management. CRM refers to communications in the cockpit.
