Officials in Converse County are investigating a fire that destroyed a wooden bridge across the North Platte River. Fire crews were called out around 4:30 a.m. Friday to the Coal Shadow Bridge off the Old Glenrock Highway. Converse County Emergency Manager Russ Dalgarn says the one-lane wooden bridge didn't get a lot of traffic, but was used by residents of 4 to five homes in the area. Converse County Undersheriff Joel Weeks says investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. He says the fire only affected the bridge and didn't burn any of the surrounding area.
